Dom Franks is a former student of Jazz Messenger Jean Toussaint, having studied as a postgraduate at London’s Guildhall School of Music, and is a previous winner of the Daily Telegraph Young Jazz Musician competition. Dom Franks’ StrayHorn was formed in 2010 to showcase Dom’s harmonically emotive, lyrical, but groove-driven compositions. Over the years the group has featured a revolving cast of leading musicians from the buzzing jazz scene around Bristol, Birmingham and Cardiff (including pianist John Law (Evan Parker), guitarist Lee Jones (Larry Corryell) and bassist Will Harris (Jazz Defenders). With hand-picked guests featuring on each of its three previous albums, the band has honed its sound through a busy touring schedule into a lean, but lyrical take on contemporary jazz. Its previous release, ‘Living With Spooks’ (2017) drew the praise of critics and picked up airplay in the UK (on BBC Radio 3), France and Israel among other countries.
Okus is a modern jazz trio featuring Les Bruce on Saxophone, Francis Sanville - Piano and Tom Hillier on Fretless Bass. Combining over 130 years of music experience, Okus brings a fresh approach to jazz performance. Expect well known tunes and standards with a mix of latin, modal and contemporary jazz.
Nova Boss
Combining swinging samba rhythm and poise with jazz harmony and lyricism, Nova Boss sings about the sea, past romances, and the passing illusion of the carnival.
